THINGS TO DO
One of the favourites for the adventurer within, this walk takes you to some of the most remote beaches and provides unrivalled access to the famous sea cliffs through the spectacular Gosangs Tunnel. There’s nothing quite like getting on your hands and knees, crawling through a cave and emerging on a cliff face to make you feel like a trailblazer. There are multiple route options on this walk. The main circuit is called Coomies Walk and takes you all the way around the headland.
Hammerhead Point picnic area is located just a short walk from Warrain Beach. Grab a table or spread your blanket on the grass. You can enjoy your sandwiches while nicely sheltered from the elements, thanks to a small sand dune that acts as a windbreak between the beach and the picnic spot. After a picnic lunch, sit back and relax or enjoy a stroll on the beach. The beach here opens to magnificent reef within the Hammerhead sanctuary zone, part of the Jervis Bay Marine Park. Wilsons Beach is located in Abrahams Bosom Reserve and can only be accessed on foot from the Abrahams Bosom car park. It is about a one hour walk and there are other little sandy coves along the way. The beach forms part of the Wreck Walk where there are shipwrecks such as the SS Merimbula nearby.
Target Beach is located on Beecroft Peninsula and can be accessed from the Target Beach track which is a four kilometre return walk. The beach is great for fishing and is protected from the wind in a nor-easter. The beautiful, quiet beach is a fantastic reward for completing the long walk.
Hidden amongst the shrubbery of Point Perpendicular you will find a small hole in the rocks just big enough for an adult to crawl through and about 20 metre long. If you crawl through the cave you will pop out on to breathtakingly beautiful sea cliffs on the other side. You can find the tunnel by following the walking track at Abraham's Bosom Reserve in Currarong, it takes about an hour return.
Drive through natural scrub and beautiful spring wildflowers to Point Perpendicular Lighthouse, and the spectacular escarpment at Jervis Bay. There is no access to the inside of the lighthouse, but the view from the grounds of the lighthouse alone, makes this drive worthwhile. The light station was a major coastal light in a network of navigational aids operated and maintained by the Australian Maritime Safety Authority. Lobster Bay is a north facing beach located along Coomies Walk in Abrahams Bosom Reserve. It can only be accessed on foot from Abrahams Bosom car park and takes about one and a half hours to walk to. There are fantastic photography spots near the beach including Gosangs Tunnel and Mermaids Inlet.
